back in the red: THE MAN ON PLATFORM 4 (AUDIO)
posted by Matt Drzymala, review by Michelle Mills

If you are a Chris Barrie fan, a Robert Llewellyn fan, a fan of good audio books, or just a fan of great impressionists, you will love this audio book. In my honest opinion, The Man on Platform 5 is one of Robert Llewellyn's best works and hearing it voiced by the inimitable Chris Barrie makes it even better. Chris does a superb job of telling the tale of Ian and his escapades, as well as bringing character and voice to Ian, Eupheme, Gresham, Ian's mates, Ian's mother, and others.

My personal favourite part is when Ian's mates are all talking together because Chris' talent as an impressionist will slap you in the face. He voices each and every man with such different characteristics you feel as though you can picture each individual as they speak. He is able to jump from one voice to another so rapidly and with such ease it is beyond comprehension.

His talent and abilities as a voice artist really pull you into the story and help you visualize what you hear and feel as the story unfolds. If you love the book, you will love the audio book. It is sometimes available on Ebay, even though I bought mine from Amazon some time ago. Or borrow it from a friend - search out a Chris Barrie fan - and enjoy the telling of the story by hearing it with your ears instead of seeing it with your eyes - give your eyes a rest, for a change.
